Itinerary

Our Best of Kyrgyzstan adventure begins! Today, we set off to explore stunning landscapes and ancient history.

First, we visit Kegety Gorge, a beautiful mountain valley 90 km from Bishkek, where we’ll see a 20-meter waterfall and enjoy the fresh air. Next, we stop at the Burana Tower, an 11th-century Silk Road monument, where we’ll climb the tower for panoramic views and explore ancient stone carvings.

To end the day, we’ll enjoy a sunset horseback ride through the breathtaking Chon-Kemin Gorge, taking in the open landscapes and peaceful atmosphere.

Tonight, we stay in a comfortable mountain guesthouse, resting for the adventures ahead.

After breakfast, we continue our Best of Kyrgyzstan adventure with a trip to the Konorchek Canyon. Here, we take a short trek through the canyon’s winding paths, surrounded by majestic red rock formations sculpted by thousands of years of erosion. This unique landscape is also home to the remains of the ancient Segizkhan-Shokny volcano, where you can even find fossilized seashells, a reminder of when this area was once covered by the sea.

After our trek, we head toward the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, arriving in Cholpon-Ata by midday. We’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and check into our hotel, where you can take some time to relax.

In the evening, we visit the Petroglyph Museum, an open-air gallery of ancient rock carvings that date back thousands of years. To end the day, we’ll watch the sunset from a boat on the crystal-clear waters of Lake Issyk-Kul, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of this vast mountain lake.

Overnight in Cholpon-Ata, resting for another day of adventure ahead.

After breakfast, we continue our journey, heading towards Karakol, a town on the eastern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul. Today is all about stunning landscapes, valleys, and outdoor adventure.

Our first stop is Chon Ak Suu Gorge, where we’ll enjoy a picnic with a view of the surrounding mountains. This peaceful spot is perfect for soaking in the fresh air and natural beauty. From there, we cross the Kok Tor Pass, taking in panoramic views of endless mountain ridges, before arriving at Kirchin Valley, known for its wide-open pastures where nomads graze their livestock.

Next, we visit the Semyonov Gorge, one of the most scenic valleys along the northern shore of Issyk-Kul. This area is famous for lush green meadows, snow-capped peaks, and winding rivers, making it a perfect stop for nature lovers and photographers.

By evening, we arrive in Karakol, check into our hotel, and get ready for a sunset kayaking session on Lake Issyk-Kul. Gliding across the calm waters with the backdrop of towering mountains is a perfect way to end the day.

Overnight in Karakol, recharging for more adventures ahead.

With the morning sun lighting up the mountains, we set off for another day of adventure. Our first stop is Jeti-Oguz Gorge, famous for its striking red rock formations, including the legendary “Seven Bulls” cliffs. As we explore the Kok Jaiyk Valley, we’ll take a short walk to the Maiden Braids Waterfall, a hidden gem tucked away in the mountains.

Continuing along the southern shore of Issyk-Kul, we soak in stunning lake views before reaching the mystical “Fairy Tale” Canyon. Shaped by time and wind, its surreal landscapes resemble castles, animals, and mythical creatures. We’ll take a short trek to a panoramic viewpoint, just in time to watch the sunset as the rocks glow in shades of gold and crimson.

As night falls, we arrive at a traditional yurt camp near the shores of Issyk-Kul. This is our first step into Kyrgyzstan’s nomadic culture, spending the night as generations of travelers and herders have done for centuries—a perfect warm-up for the deeper nomadic experiences ahead.

Overnight in a yurt by Issyk-Kul.

After breakfast on the shore of Lake Issyk Kul in the Yurt camp, we’ll head to the “Barskoon” Gorge, where we’ll walk along the trail to the “Tears of the Bars” waterfall. Then we’ll conquer the high passes of the gorge, with our final destination being the incredibly beautiful Arabellian Syrts, located at an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level. Here we’ll walk to the “Manas Bowl” waterfall. Then we’ll head to the ancient city of Kochkor. On the way, we’ll visit the villages of Tamga and Kyzyl Tuu, and meet the sunset on the shore of the Ortokoyskoe Reservoir. Arrival in Kochkor, check-in at a cozy guest house.

Overnight in Kochkor.

With a new day ahead, we start by visiting a vibrant local bazaar, where you can experience the energy of daily life, browse traditional handicrafts, and see how locals trade fresh produce and spices.

From there, we begin our journey to Son-Kul Lake, the second-largest alpine lake in Kyrgyzstan, located high in the mountains. The road takes us through steep ascents and winding descents, revealing breathtaking views of rugged peaks and wide-open valleys along the way.

By evening, we settle into a traditional yurt camp, fully embracing the nomadic lifestyle of Kyrgyzstan. On clear nights, the sky transforms into a dazzling display of stars, offering a perfect opportunity for night sky photography or simply enjoying the peaceful beauty of this remote landscape.

As our Best of Kyrgyzstan journey comes to an end, we begin our drive back to Bishkek, a scenic 6-hour journey through mountain landscapes and open valleys.
